The Birch The Birch Children’s Home is a two-bed home set in a quiet cul-de-sac. The home provides a safe, nurturing environment with individualised support for children and young people who have experienced trauma or other adverse life experiences. We believe that individualised support is conducive to therapeutic progression and achieving their goals. The Birch supports children and young people in a fully therapeutic manner, including offsite Equine Therapy and assisted learning at our other home, The Grange. Our staff are trained in Empathic Behaviour Management (EBM) applying the principles of the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy). Our staff work collaboratively with psychology professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children or young people with a history of trauma or adverse life experiences.
The therapeutic garden and pond are a welcoming space for our young people seeking a peaceful and restorative environment. The combination of natural elements, including plants and water, generates a calming and healing atmosphere which is very beneficial for those dealing with stress, anxiety, or other mental health difficulties. The pond in our garden serves as a focal point for relaxation and contemplation. The gentle sound of running water and the sight of fish and other aquatic life is soothing and calming, helping to reduce stress and anxiety. The presence of water also creates a sense of serenity and tranquillity, providing a peaceful escape from the chaos of daily life. To further enhance the therapeutic benefits of our garden, we have incorporated comfortable seating areas and a variety of plants and flowers known for their calming and healing properties. Our garden is a welcoming space for people of all ages and backgrounds, and we encourage our young people and staff members to take the time to relax, reflect, and recharge in this tranquil environment.
